COMPARISON OF TOP 5 PHABLETS AvVAILABLE IN MARKET (according to dec 2013)

What Is A Phablet ?

A phablet is a class of mobile device designed to combine or straddle the functions of a smartphone and tablet. Phablets are characterized by the use of large screens, typically with a diagonal size between 5 to 6.9 inches (130 to 180 mm), which complement screen-intensive activity such as mobile web browsing and multimedia viewing. Phablets may also include software optimized for an integral self-storing stylus to facilitate sketching, note-taking and annotation. While Samsung's Galaxy Note is largely credited with pioneering the worldwide phablet market when launched in 2011,examples of early devices with similar form factors date back all the way to 1993

1.Samsung Galaxy :Note 3

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is an Android phablet smartphone produced by Samsung Electronics. The Galaxy Note 3 was unveiled during a Samsung press conference at IFA Berlin on September 4, 2013, with its worldwide release beginning later in the month. Serving as a successor to the Galaxy Note II, the Note 3 was designed to have a lighter, more upscale design than previous iterations of the Galaxy series (with a plastic leather backing and faux metallic bezel), and to expand upon the stylus and multitasking-oriented functionality in its software—which includes a new navigation wheel for pen-enabled apps, along with pop-up apps and expanded multi-window functionality.Samsung has sold 5 million units of the Galaxy Note 3 within its first month of sale.

The Galaxy Note 3's design was intended to carry a more upscale, "premium" look in comparison to previous Samsung devices. Although it carries a similarly polycarbonate-oriented design to other recent Samsung devices, the Galaxy Note 3 has a faux metallic bezel and a rear cover made of plastic leather with faux stitching. With a thickness of 8.3 mm (0.33 in), it is slightly thinner than the Galaxy Note II, and is also slightly lighter. The LTE version of the Galaxy Note 3 uses a 2.3 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 chip, while the GSM version uses a 1.9 GHz octa-core Exynos 5420 (consisting of four 1.9 GHz Cortex-A15 cores and four 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7 cores) instead. The device also includes 3 GB of RAM, a 5.7-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display, a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera capable of filming videos in 1080p at 60 fps and 4K resolution at 30 fps (for only 5 mins), 32 or 64 GB of internal storage, and a 3200 mAh battery. As with other Galaxy Note series devices, the Galaxy Note 3 ships with an S Pen stylus, which has been updated to use a more symmetrical shape. The Galaxy Note 3 is also the first smartphone to include support for USB 3.0, which enables faster data transfers and charging when attached to a compatible port. The Note 3 is available in six colors; it launched with Blush Pink, Classic White and Jet Black, and in December 2013 added Merlot Red, Rose Gold Black and Rose Gold White.

2.Sony Xperia Z:Ultra

The Sony Xperia Z Ultra is a 2013 high-end phablet designed and manufactured by Sony Mobile.
Codenamed Togari and marketed as "the world's slimmest Full HD smartphone"it's the first phone that allows users to take notes or draw on with a regular pen or pencil.
Like the Sony Xperia Z and Z1, the phone is dust protected, low pressure water jet protected, and waterproof, allowing immersion under 1.5-metre of water for up to 30 minutes (IP55 / IP58), as well as shatter-proof and scratch-resistant, making it the world's thinnest IP certified smartphone.
The Xperia Z Ultra uses the same "Omni-Balance" design as Xperia Z. Combining tempered glass on both the front and rear with a metallic frame, the phablet is described as an "attractive-looking gadget" which has "minimalistic" yet "stylish" appeal and "premium feel".
Designed to be the same width as a passport, the device will fit normal jacket
pockets. The metal frame also makes it more comfortable to hold with one hand.
The Sony Xperia Z Ultra has a 6.44" display, is slim (179 x 92 x 6.5 mm) and lightweight (212g); it is also dust protected, low pressure water jet protected, waterproof (IP55 / IP58), shatter-proof and scratch-resistant.It has a 2 megapixel front camera and 8 megapixel rear camera with an Exmor RS sensor, 16x digital zoom with auto focus, 1080p HD recording, HDR, continue burst mode, face detection.
On the inside, the Z Ultra is first smartphone announced with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor. It comes with a sealed 3050mAh Lithium polymer battery, 2GB RAM, 16GB of flash storage, and also has a microSD card slot (up to 64 GB). For connectivity, the phone has LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, Wi-Fi and screen mirroring.
Sony will also release a Smart Bluetooth Handset (SBH52) that allows answering calls without taking the phablet out, as well as reading call logs and text messages, listening to music and FM radio. The handset has NFC for single-touch pairing with Xperia Z Ultra, and it is also water-resistant.
The 6.44" Full HD (1080p) 342ppi touchscreen display uses Sony's TRILUMINOS™ and X-Reality for mobile technology, with an OptiContrast panel to reduce reflection and enable clearer viewing even in bright sunlight. The screen is highly responsive and compatible with stylus as well as regular pencils or metal pens.
Being waterproof means that users can still use the phablet in bath, in the rain, or take it to the pool or beach. Although lacking a rear LED flash, the phone's cameras are capable of taking pictures/videos at any light and even underwater.
The Xperia Z Ultra runs Sony's custom version of Android 4.2.2. In addition to Sony's own applications like Walkman, PlayStation Mobile, battery stamina mode, several Google apps also come preloaded (Google Chrome, Google Play, Google Voice Search, Google Maps, NeoReader™ barcode scanner).
Because of its size, the phone's on-screen keyboard and dialer can be switched to either sides for users to easily reach all keys with only the thumb.
For gaming, Dualshock 3 is natively supported.

3.HTC One Max

The HTC One Max is an Android phablet smartphone designed and manufactured by HTC. The device is a larger variant of HTC's 2013 flagship high-end smartphone, the HTC One, notably incorporating a 5.9-inch display and fingerprint recognition features.
The release of the One Max was met with mixed critical reception; although the software updates introduced in Sense 5.5 were noted as positive improvements, the One Max was panned for using the same hardware as the One and for the operation of its fingerprint sensor.
The HTC One Max was officially unveiled on 14 October 2013 for an almost-immediate release in European and Asian markets. It was released in the United Kingdom exclusively by Vodafone (who indicated that its stock would begin arriving in-store later that week), while Sprint and Verizon Wireless confirmed plans to soon release the One Max in the United States. The One Max also includes 50 gigabytes of free Google Drive storage for 2 years.
The HTC One Max uses an almost identical design to the HTC One; however, the Max has a plastic bezel similar to the One Mini, uses a side-mounted power button, and also includes a removable back cover which exposes SIM card and microSD slots. The One Max inherits hardware features first introduced with the HTC One, such as front-facing dual BoomSound stereo speakers and a 4-megapixel rear-facing camera with an UltraPixel image sensor (however, the camera does not support optical image stabilization). Additionally, a fingerprint scanner is located directly below the camera. Internally, the One Max features a 1.7 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor with 2 GB of RAM, a 5.9 inch 1080p screen with a pixel density of 373 ppi, an infrared blaster and NFC, uses a larger (but still non-removable) 3300 mAh battery, and contains 32 GB of expandable storage.
The One Max ships with a version of Android 4.3 and HTC Sense 5.5; the update adds RSS and Google+ support to BlinkFeed, the option to disable BlinkFeed, a tool for making animated GIFs, and additional Highlights themes. Users can unlock the phone by vertically swiping on the fingerprint scanner. Up to three fingers can be recognized by the system, and the One Max can also be configured to automatically launch a certain app when a specific finger is detected.

4.LG G Pro Lite Dual

The LG G Pro Lite is a smartphone designed and manufactured by LG Electronics. The G Pro Lite has pretty standard specs, some may even term them disappointing. The biggest thing about it, literally, is its 5.5-inch IPS display that is handicapped by a measly resolution of 960x540 pixels. By the way, that’s the same resolution sported by the 3.5-in iPhone 4S. The G Pro Lite is powered by a dual-core Mediatek MT6577 processor clocked at 1GHz and 1GB of RAM, again nothing impressive. Imaging is taken care of by an 8MP camera that can also shoot 720p video. It comes out of the box with, the now ancient, Android 4.1.2. Like other phones in this segment, the LG also offers dual SIM support and a dedicated touch button to jump between the active cards. The LG G Pro Lite is powered by a standard Lithium-Polymer battery of 3140 mAh.The LG G Pro Lite runs on Google's Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system skinned with LG Optimus UI 3.0.The LG G Pro Lite runs on Google's Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system skinned with LG Optimus UI 3.0.

There’s nothing really refreshing or brilliant in the way the LG G Pro Lite looks. Close your eyes and imagine an average looking large screened Android phone, that’s what the G Pro Lite looks like. You will have to depend on its 5.5-inch display for aesthetic pleasure and it manages to please in some aspects. The display is very bright and vibrant and has good viewing angles. Unfortunately, it also has too few pixels for its real estate and individual pixels are discernable if you pay attention to the screen. It’s hard to get passionate about the LG Optimus G Pro Lite. Sure, it does some things well, but not in an exceptional manner. It also falters in some aspects but not in ways that leave you horrified. It is a pretty okay device and that “pretty okay” is not sufficient for me to recommend it over other phones such as the more expensive Nexus 4 or the much less expensive Xolo Q1000S, or the Nokia Lumia 720, for those not shackled to place by Android.

5.Nokia Lumia 1520

The Nokia Lumia 1520 is a smartphone designed and produced by Nokia. With a display size of 6 in (15 cm), it became the largest Windows Phone when it was unveiled in Abu Dhabi during the Nokia World event on 22 October 2013, when the Lumia 1320 and Lumia 2520 were also announced. The phone is expected to compete with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and HTC One Max upon release. The Lumia 1520's IPS LCD display will be the first Windows Phone display to have a resolution of 1080p, allowing it to have three columns of Live Tiles and will be protected by Gorilla Glass 2; at 6 in, the display has a pixel density of 368 pixels per inch.Despite having a large display, it has no stylus support. The phone will be powered by a 2.2 GHz Snapdragon 800 system on a chip, and will have a 20 megapixel PureView camera. With 4G LTE and near field communication connectivity, the phone will be sold with Microsoft's Office productivity suite and 7 GB of SkyDrive storage, in addition to the 32 GB of built-in memory, with a possible further 64 GB expansion via microSD. The Lumia 1520 has a 3,400 mAh battery and will be compatible with a US$99 DC-50 wireless-charging plate, with the phone itself to have a price of US$749Technology commentators, in their initial reviews of the Lumia 1520, have praised the phone for its display, speed and camera

The 1520 retains Nokia's familiar design language — it's a single piece polycarbonate design that looks like a bigger version of the Lumia 720 — and build quality. But when you have a 6-inch display, there's no getting around having a big phone, and the 1520 is downright massive: it's 3.36 inches wide, 6.4 inches tall, and weighs 7.37 ounces, despite being only 0.34 inches thick. You can hold it with one hand, but for the most part, this is a two-handed device. The new LCD display is bright and vibrant, and as is the case with most Nokia's, it has great viewing angles and deep blacks.
